Zoo Day

Q and I had a zoo day this weekend.  We had SO much fun!!  She absolutely loves her animals, and we've been practicing all their names and sounds in several books that we have.  She's gotten quite good with them, and knows so many.  Its so easy to get carried away thinking you have the smartest baby on the planet.  It's so amazing how smart babies are, and how quickly they learn new things.

The mural on the outside wall of the zoo would've probably been enough for Q, she squealed all the animal names as soon as we pulled up.  "Zebra!! Zebra!! Lion!! Rawrrr!! Monkey!  Ooo ooh!"  She was so excited!

We spent the next hour that morning, cruising around looking at all the animals- squaking parrots, numerous peacocks, coatis, goats and deer of all types, camels, bobcats, lions, tigers, zebras, monkeys, baboons, and even a hyena.  It was fun.

I've appreciated every minute that I've been able to spend with Q since taking the positive test.  I know that our world will soon change, and none more drastically than hers. Right now, this is our special time together.  I get to pick her up and cuddle with her during her morning bottle.  I get to hold her hand while we walk to school together.  Just the two of us.  She is lavished with our attention, and she deserves it.

The reality probably has yet to sink in, but right now, I am very excited about this next step.  The fearful shock has worn off (though I'm guessing will come and go over the next several months).  Little Q is so awesome, and it will be so cool to have another just like her...but different.

I'm f#cking fertile as f#ck

(And obviously freaking out a little bit right now)

Despite this fact, all those "signs" I was experiencing were probably all in my head. The last negative test I took last Sunday morning convinced me that I wasn't pregnant, and since then, I haven't exoeienced any of those symptoms. Or, at least I stopped obsessing over each detail. I was planning on waiting until my 37-day cycle period was actually late (if it could possibly be late in it's unpredictability) to take another test. I had to at least keep enough if those sticks around to be as obsessive about taking them next month.

I came home to try to go out on a bike ride this afternoon (my first in the last two weeks.... This weight gain is getting a little saddening- especially since it has nothing to do with growing a baby), and found myself unreasonably close to tears that neither of my bikes had wheels on them. Rather then get my hands greasy putting a wheel on one of them, I went inside to take another test. Just like in the previous tests, I imagined I saw a little shadow forming on the positive line. As the control line darkened, though, this time the shadow seemed more pinkish, and less shadowy. I looked away and looked back. Less shadowy.... More seconds go by. WTF?!? That is a definite pink line.

This is when the freaking began. One immediately-unresponded-to text to Scott about meeting for lunch later, I sat down to title this post. Got the first sentence down before he called back. I almost spilled the beans right on the phone, but luckily he didn't cue into to my cracking voice. We were meeting for lunch! Thank God I didn't have to hold onto this for very long!

How Hard Can it Be?

I'm sure this is what everyone thinks as soon as they start trying to have a baby. Despite the fact that I've given the awarning to friends before "You, know...it might not happen right away..."

We decided to “casually” try for the next couple months. I don’t know how “casually trying” really differs that much from actually trying. I think when you actually try, you track everything down to the T- measure temperatures, use ovulation predictors, etc. etc. So, we’re trying without all that, although I am entering dates into a ovulation calendar, and having sex every few days.

So, I probably shouldn't get pregnant. I should probably heed my own advice that it might not happen right away. Which is just as well. We're only trying for the next couple months, and if it doesn't work out, perhaps we'll actually get married next summer instead.

But, I think I’m pregnant.

I’m sure this is what everyone thinks and wonders about constantly as soon as they start trying. And why should I be any different? Since my cycle returned about 5 months ago, I’ve only had 4 periods, averaging about a 37 days Which means that here at day 21, I probably haven't even ovulated yet. And yet, I still am convinced I might be pregnant. How do more women not drive themselves completely crazy with trying to get pregnant. Maybe they do.

We’ve been trying all of about 14 days so far, and I already feel like I’m off my rocker.

I felt like I had some signs of ovulation mid last week, which would be well timed... if I had an average 28 day cycle. Since then, I’ve been experiencing symptoms that make me think I’m pregnant. Of course, it’s probably all in my head. Now, 8 days after seeming ovulation, here are a list of my "symptoms" and the accompanying reasons for why I'm ridiculous.

Symptom #1: I've been feeling crampy a lot, been experiencing tightening in my uterus (especially when working out), and have been having lots of bubbling sensations and twinges.

Why I'm probably not pregnant:
- I'm probably just paying more attention than ever before. These feelings are normal.
- I'm probably just actually ovulating
 - Coincidental that they are typically timed with bathroom visit? Probably not.

Symptom #2: I've been tired a lot. Could easily nap under my desk,.
- I’ve been staying up late watching the Olympics, much later than my normal bed time.
-Who doesn't want to take naps under their desk at work on a daily basis?
-Have really cut back on excercise and training, which can definitely leave you feeling more tired

Symptom #3: I've been emotional. I cried last night during the Olympics.
 -Well, It’s the Olympics!

Symptom #4: I feel a little nauseous here and there during the day.
- I’m pretty sure I’ve felt this way before during the day, doesn’t really seem very new.
-Besides an occasional yucky feeling, I never had morning sickness with Q.
- Also seems to kind of coincide with when I need to go to the bathroom.

Symptom #5: Have felt slightly dizzy
- It seems to be when I stand up quickly from sitting down, or from head down position.

Symptom #6: Had a sip of wine last night, and it tasted terrible. (OK, OK, I know I should be having any drink when TTC or when pregnant...but this is all in my head, right. Plus, it was only a couple sips with dinner...)
 - The wine was from 1999, and the cork fell into about 20 pieces upon removal

Symptom #7: I've gained a few pounds
-See above comment about not excercising and training. Plus, a few pounds relative to my race weight is pretty close to normal weight.
-Also been eating terribly, and more than I should.

Symptom #8: I guess that brigns me to symptom #8-that I feel hungrier more often.
- I MUST be pregnant! There is absolutely no argument against this one!

Symptom #9: My salad tasted gross yesterday.
-Well, it was 3 days old, the carrots were shriveled, and radicchio is just pretty gross, anyway.

Symptom #10: I have been noticing a stronger odor from "down there"
-I really should shower more often

Ok, other "Non-symptoms"
- I'm not grossed out by coffee
-My boobs have unfortunately not re-inflated to their glorious pre-pregnancy fullness.
-I don't have any other cravings or aversions (besides rejecting said 3 day old salad. And wine still sounds pretty good)
-I don't have itchy wrists (my wrists were seriously itchy when I was pregnant w/ Q. As soon as I found out I was pregnant at 8 weeks, I attributed the itchy wrists to the hormones)
-Did I mention its entiely possible that I have not even ovulated
- I took a negative test on Tuesday (it would've been far too early to tell anyway, especially if I took it before I'm pregnant)

 - I should listen to my own advice "It might not happen right away"

Could be another week, but maybe even three before I can find out for sure!

MINE

I'm starting a new blog that's mine and mine alone, mainly to track and look back at the exciting events, daily routines, and the little things that make it all worthwhile :). I plan on posting irregulary, and not making updates between long periods of inactivity. It's mine so that I won't be limited on publishing the things I don't want other people to know. Right now, we're working on making baby #2, and I need a way to track and get-it-all out. Hopefully here, I'll track the changing life and growing of baby #1, Q. Hopefully soon, Baby #2, TBD, and, eventually, the little things about planning a wedding and getting married (maybe).
